Vera Fortis
A home for international voices and radical forms, VERA FORTIS is a collaborative company of designers, actors, producers and writers.
Vera Fortis
Founded in 2025 by internationally recognized director Tea Algaic, as a response to her own experiences with war, migration and political violence during the Bosnian War, VERA FORTIS is a multidisciplinary collective that works across classical, modern and adapted texts to interrogate themes of power, class, gender, history, and individual responsibility. With a fiercely international lens, VERA FORTIS creates bold, often multilingual performances with collaborators from all over the world, in order to center the bodies, rhythms, architecture, silence, and histories of artists shaped by the paradoxes of exile and survival.
Tea Alagić
TEA ALAGIĆ is an internationally acclaimed Bosnian director, writer, producer, actor, and educator. Celebrated for her highly visual, physically dynamic approach, Tea draws on circus and trapeze training, the traditions of Jacques Lecoq, and immersive theatrical techniques to transform text into embodied ritual with bold theatricality. Critics have called her work “vivid, vital, and a lot of fun”, with The New York Times noting her ability to create “a vivid, very recognizable world”, and The New Yorker praising her direction in the North American premier of Elfriede Jelinek’s Jackie, highlighting her skill in finding “infinite variety in Jelinek’s long text… make this smashing of an old icon worth a visit.”

ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Under the direction of Tea Alagić, the company draws on a lineage of physical and visual theater informed by training with some of the most influential practitioners of the 20th and 21st centuries. This work breaks open text—classical and contemporary through movement, space, sound, and image.
Meaning is not carried by language alone. It is constructed through bodies, gesture, rhythm, architecture, and silence.
Each project determines its own form. VERA FORTIS moves fluidly across mediums, from stage to film to site-specific work, rejecting the limitations of a single mode of storytelling.
International collaboration is not an aesthetic choice—it is a political necessity.
MISSION
VERA FORTIS creates rigorous, politically charged work that centers female experience, amplifies international voices, and challenges inherited forms.
It exists to confront, to remember, and to resist amnesia.
